Searching for ideas

It’s Sunday and it is hot out however there is a breeze to make the heat somewhat bareable. Yesterday was just as hot and I was trying to sell some items at my brother-in-law’s garage sale.  I was hoping to make some money.  I made some money not very much however it paid for dinner for my son and I.  I think it was too hot for many people to be outside, it was 90 or just above.

While trying to stay cool and waiting for all the people to show up I was thinking of other ways to find meaningfulness.  I have been writing down the things that I like to do. One of the items that I wrote down is I love going to flea markets to search for vintage jewelry, furniture and home accessories.  I’m a shabby chic kind of a person because I like the idea of items being reused or repurposed. Is this something I should look into doing?

When I think about getting into that type of business, I think of all the reasons why it would not work for me.  One of the reasons is I do not have a garage to store the items in.  I would have to rent a storage space, so that would cost money and you would have to have money to purchase items that you want to sell, etc.  All I was seeing was dollar signs going to someone else instead of me.  The idea is to make money doing something I love and something that brings meaning to my life.

I love reading about people that have reinvented themselves like the movie Julie & Julia.  She decides to cook recipes from Julia Child’s cookbook and blogs about it.  It changes her life and career.  She writes about cooking both (writing and cooking) are things she loves to do.

I’m ready to reinvent myself I just need to find that one thing I love to do, am suppose to do with my life. I’m working on this but I would love to hear from you if you have reinvented yourself please let me know.  Thanks for reading!

  1. Hey! I just posted this on someone else’s blog and thought that maybe it might be useful for you?
“I hope you figure it out for real soon… I figured this out a couple of years ago and I did this by letting go of all the rules, all the expectations, all the “you should be doing xyz” and instead figured out what was important for me. I thought about why i’m here, what I want to do in my life, what is important to me – and by thinking along those lines I realised that unless I did certain things then I wouldn’t be me, I wouldn’t allow myself to be me, my life wouldn’t be mine. So I knew for sure, as real as the Sun is the Sun, what I will do in my life. I’m currently working on the second part, which is working out how I can actually do what i’m here to do!!!” However, I can understand that when there are day-to-day practical concerns then following your calling might be difficult in the short-term. One way i’m looking at things is splitting up “earning income” and “following my calling” in the short-term i.e. doing both at the same time but as distinct activities with the aim of your calling becoming your income source in the longer term. Hope this helps.

      Mira,
Thanks for reading my blog and leaving a comment. What you are saying is the insight I am working on. How to make money following my calling or purpose in life.
I like “keeping the glass half full”.
