We made it through 2012 and we begin again in 2013. It is a chance to begin again, to use what we have learned in 2012 and move forward. I accomplished a lot in 2012 by taking a leap of faith. After being at a job for 8 years I was laid off. I was not sure what I was going to do other than look for another job. In May I took the Notary class and exam, passed and received my commission, I am a Notary Public.
In June while at the One Stop Unemployment Office I was told about a certification program at the local college for Recycling Resource Management. I signed up and started classes in June. In December I completed and passed all classes and did two internships. I had not thought about going back to college but there I was. I enjoyed being in a classroom again, learning how to do waste audits and about how to help the environment. I enjoyed meeting new people and having somewhere to go almost every day and pushing myself to do the homework, go to classes and field trips, look for work, and do the housework.
This moved me to a new direction in my search for meaningfulness. I realized I am very passionate about saving the earth and I learned that I am going to have to stretch myself and get out of my comfort zone in order to work in this field. This is not easy for me for the reason that I am a little hard of hearing and I worry about people’s reactions when I have to ask them to speak up especially in certain environments. Yes I wear hearing aids – they help but not in all situations.
2012 took me in a completely new direction and for 2013 I am seeking meaningfulness by hopefully obtaining a green job that will make a difference in the environment. I am staying open to possibilities that the universe may offer me.
What did you accomplish in 2012?
