English: Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay...

I was in the San Francisco Bay area recently and it was a very enjoyable trip.  I was there for 4 days. The weather was clear, sunny but crisp in other words sweater weather.  The sun glistened on the Golden Gate Bridge which you could see all of the bridge because there was no fog to mask the top.  One day we went for a hike in Marin County and the waterfalls and foliage was beautiful.  The air felt and smelled clean the way it feels right after it rains.

However my favorite part of the whole trip was when my brother took me to an independent bookstore in Corte Madera.  Yes an independent bookstore still exists!  It was wonderful! Filled with all types of books and they have authors that come to speak and sign books.  I was in my element, so happy to see this thriving bookstore with a staff that can recommend the type of books you like and they answer your questions on books that you are looking for.  Intelligent people, books lovers and nobody on their cell phone or iPAD, actual people having conversations.

They have a separate building that houses the children’s books, art books, travel books, gift items and used books.  They also have a cafe in the main building.  It is delightful!  I only wish there were more of these in Southern California.  Technology and Amazon.com has taken over and there are still Barnes & Noble.  Barnes & Noble has that commercial, materialist feel, not like an independent that has a cozy atmosphere with a staff that loves books and loves helping their customers.

I support the independents and the mom and pop shops of yesteryear.  Put down your electronics and pick up a real book.
