Last night I was on Twitter and came across a commencement speech made by Jim Carey. It was the best speech I have ever heard from him. He said you already have what you need, it is inside of you. He spoke about being of service and faith in yourself, go out and do what you most want to.
Great advice, so inspirational! However and there is always a “however” when you have responsibilities, a child, a pet, a house, bills – you have to have money to pay for your daily living expenses, unless you throw caution to the wind and go after your passion you have to work in a job you might not enjoy.
I have always had jobs – that was it they were just jobs, a way to get paid. I would usually get bored with the jobs because there was no meaningfulness to it, no great environment that I could look forward to, it was just a job. I moved from job to job, looking and hoping for something that would spark an interest.
Today I regret that I did not find a job that I could stay at for most my life. I am still looking for that spark. I work a part-time retail job that provides a small regular income and I do some bookkeeping and administrative contracting work. Unfortunately the contracting jobs are not regular hours and days and so the income is not steady. I do enjoy that I am not sitting in an office all day but I do miss the income.
Inspiration and passion – I feel lost sometimes.
What I enjoy – writing my blogs, I enjoy moving furniture around and organizing stuff in order to declutter and give my rooms a new perspective. – could I make money doing any of this? The jury is still out and searching for the answer while Jim Carey’s words echo in my head.
